Superior Credit Union on Kibby Street robbed

10 PM News Update - 8/14/18

It takes Lima police detectives and officers just three hours to identify, find, and arrest the man wanted for an afternoon bank robbery.

Officers were called out to the Superior Credit Union branch on East Kibby street just before 4:30 today, on reports of a robbery. Witnesses say a black man, believed to be in his early 60s walked into the bank and passed the teller a note demanding cash. He appeared to have a weapon wrapped in a towel he was carrying. The Robber then ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A post on the Lima Police Department's Facebook page resulted in several tips, leading detectives to identify the suspect as 63-year-old John Edward Jackson, who is on community control right now after being released from custody. Not long after posting pictures of the suspect, he was found at a home on Greenlawn Avenue and taken into custody by 7:30 p.m.  

Jackson faces an initial charge of suspicion of aggravated robbery.

8/14/18 6:25 PM Update

An update now to our top story, concerning a late afternoon robbery at the Superior Credit Union branch on East Kibby Street in Lima.

Lima Police now believe they have identified the suspect in the case. Detective Steve Stechschulte says the suspect is 63-year-old John Edward Jackson. Jackson is currently on community control, and detectives were able to quickly identify him; thanks to responses to a posting on the Lima Facebook page. Six News - 8/14/18

Police remain on the scene investigating a robbery at the Superior Credit Union branch on Kibby Street in Lima.

A call came in just after 4:30 this afternoon. A man reportedly handed tellers a note demanding cash. Scanner traffic indicated the man then got away with cash. Initial indications are that he may have fled in the direction of Lima Memorial.

Police are still actively searching nearby neighborhoods.
