RUSSELLS POINT, OH (WLIO)- In the wake of the deadly EF-3 tornado, an overwhelming amount of support continues to pour into the Indian Lake region.
On Monday afternoon, we traveled to The Lighthouse at Indian Lake in Russells Point where people from near and far have donated items ranging from food and water to clothes, blankets, hygiene products, baby formula and diapers. A kitchen staff was also present to help serve tornado survivors and area first responders with hot meals serving 750 meals just on Monday. Organizers at The Lighthouse have a 40-foot container outside for overflow storage of donated items, and they say that a second container might be needed as the generosity continues to pour in.
"This morning, we needed gas cards for people to be able to refill their generators, so we had 2 gentlemen in here, and they said 'what's the need,' and I said, 'we need gas cards so we can give to people to get gas for their generators,' and they gave us $1,250, so we went and got $50 increments of gas cards, and we're able to keep people's generators, heat, and lights going, which is huge... and so, in this community, you know, for those of us who grew up here, this is hard to see... and we've always had a saying around here 'the lake takes care of the lake,' and it has been amazing to see not just the lake take care of the lake this time, but we've had an amazing response from the entire state," shares Pastor Jim Ellington, Senior Pastor, Indian Lake Community Church and The Lighthouse at Indian Lake.
Pastor Ellington adds that donations of tarps, batteries, flashlights, brooms, dust pans, electric heaters, and diapers are in high demand to continue assisting in the recovery process.
