On Labor Day weekend people are anxious to get to their destinations, but sometimes being in a big hurry isn't the best choice.
Drivers that exceed the speed limit and breaking safety laws just to gain a little extra time at their destination aren't missed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
"What we typically look for is we have the speed violations, we're looking for people who are driving distracted, we're looking for people who aren't wearing their safety belts - we believe that they're one of the things you can do to protect yourself in the event of a traffic crash," said Sgt. Matt Schmenk of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Lima Post.
And with an increased amount of drivers on the road thanks to lower gas prices -
"There's been a lot of traffic, there's been a lot of people traveling through the area. Â We've been steady with traffic stops," Sgt. Schmenk said.
- It's important for those drivers to be smart when traveling.
One major violation that the Ohio State Highway Patrol looks for is impaired driving.  They've already arrested 6 people during the holiday weekend.  It's something that they have plenty of advice for for those who are celebrating the holiday.
"Obviously if you do go out and you're planning on drinking, we ask that you look for somebody to be a designated driver," said Sgt. Schmenk.
The best way to get to your destination safely is to follow the speed limit, stay alert, and keep other drivers on the road in mind.
