WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — Two new restaurants are in the works in Wapakoneta.

The Coop and The Mason Jar are both set to open this spring, bringing new dining options to the community. The Coop will offer takeout and delivery chicken, including wings, tenders and sandwiches, using a secret recipe passed down to the owner. The Mason Jar will be a steakhouse, but owner Matthew Brown says he wants it to be a casual place where people can get together.

“Keep it pretty simple, not too fancy. I feel like Wapak needs steaks, sports, with 86-inch TVs. My vision is to have the best food in Wapak and for it to be full all the time.”

Mayor Dan Lee says the new spots are exciting additions for the city.

“I'm super excited about people investing in Wapakoneta. You know, that's what makes a city a great place to work, live and play, is when people invest and to have these two new restaurants coming into Wapakoneta is just it means so much to the citizens that we have variety. We have places that cater to different aspects of what we need.”

Lee says he hopes the new businesses help attract more people — both residents and visitors — to downtown.
