Update: Basement fire damages Delphos home

A basement fire damages a Delphos home and sends two people to the hospital. 

The Delphos Fire Department was called out to the 6000 block of Kiggins Road around 8 p.m. Tuesday. According to firefighters, the fire started in the basement of the home and created a lot of smoke. The homeowners, who were in the home at the time of the fire, was taken to the hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation. The auditor's website says the home is owned by James and Ann Benfield. The fire damaged the basement and a room at the back of the home, and the estimated damage was around $200,000.  

Spencerville, Fort Jennings, and American Township fire departments assisted with the fire. The fire remains under investigation.
