A West Central Ohio teacher's dedication to his students has earned him the title of 2019 Teacher of the Year.
Van Wert band director, Robert Sloan, was given the recognition for the state's District One from Ohio State Board of Education. State officials say Sloan teaches his students to represent themselves, the band, school, and the community with pride. He also helps his students understand the music they play better, by bringing in the composers that wrote the music. Sloan also judges state level music competitions and has chaired the Ohio Music Education Association Honors choir and band festival.
This fall, Sloan or one of the ten other regional teachers of the year awardees will be named the Ohio Teacher of the Year.
