Van Wert High School choir perform for Council on Aging

Tuesday, senior citizens in Van Wert got the chance to get into the holiday spirit with some holiday music, food, and fun.

Tuesday morning the Van Wert high school choir performed a number of classical Christmas tunes for a group of senior citizens at the Van Wert Council on Aging. This is an annual event that takes place every year at the Council on Aging that also includes a holiday meal and time for senior citizens to socialize.

"It's a nice time where people can just kind of not think about their stress and worries," said Kevin Matthews, Van Wert Council on Aging Director.  "A lot of the seniors had lost other loved ones so it's a rough time for them. So we have this and it's good fellowship for people to come out and just enjoy each other's company."

One of the Van Wert residents in attendance today said he enjoys coming each year because of the great performance.

"Well I've been very proud to be connected with the Council on Aging and to see the things they do," said Don Hangartner, a Van Wert resident. "I try to participate in some of them, and I heard about the singing group and I haven't been around a lot of teenagers for a long time because I'm in my 80s now. It was actually fun and it brought a few tears to my eyes."

The Van Wert High School choir also performed their Christmas music for several nursing homes in the Van Wert-area.
