A new website has been launched for residents of Ohio to stay informed about scams.
OhioProtects.org is designed to keep residents aware of scams, fraud and identity theft in the area. AARP Ohio says in the past year 25 percent of Ohians 18 and older had their personal information exposed to identity theft and fraud. They say older Americans are scammed out of about $3 million every year.
The Ohio Attorney General says they receive more than 27,000 consumer complaints every year. This new initiative aims at showing consumers scams are not always that obvious.
30 second videos use humor to help spread the message.
The local BBB says consumers can also go to their scam tracker website where you can look at what scams have been reported in your area, or even report one yourself. That's BBB.org/scamtracker.
