Officials in Wapakoneta are saying that the recent deal made for the greenhouse may be a good opportunity for the city.
Mastronardi Produce announced the purchase of the greenhouse earlier this month to start growing produce for their "Sunset" brand. The Canada-based company now has greenhouses in five states - the Wapakoneta greenhouse, which will now be known as The Ohio Greenhouse Company, is the sixth American greenhouse for Mastronardi Produce.
With the changes coming to the greenhouse, Greg Myers with the Wapakoneta Area Economic Development Council says that there are a lot of great opportunities coming to the city.
"Although we like our friends from Golden Fresh Farms, and many of them are going to continue working for Mastronardi Produce, we think that this is probably a good thing for our community; a larger company, a larger brand, greater sales across the country, is now owning a facility here in Wapakoneta," Myers said.
Plans for a 15-acre expansion for the greenhouse are also in the works.
