YOUnique Wig Boutique opens for cancer patients and others

For women experiencing hair loss for medical reasons, wigs become a necessity, but high prices can keep them out of reach. Not anymore, a new boutique in Lima offers them at no cost.

Anita Good is a cancer survivor who was shocked at the price of wigs. She says she needed a wig to help her feel normal while losing her hair during cancer treatments. They can range in price from $40 up to over $1,000. When she looked for a place to donate the gently used wigs after she no longer needed them, she found nothing, and from there was born the YOUnique Wig Boutique at the Lima Memorial Medical Park on Eastown Road.

Currently 150 wigs line the shelves, each with its own personality. Trained volunteers can help you decide if long and blonde is the best way to go, or if a short brunette cut would suit you best. They'll also teach you how care for the wig. Whichever you choose, the wigs are free to women of all ages who are experiencing hair loss due to medical treatment.

The boutique operates on a pay it forward mind set. All the wigs, hats, scarves and wraps available have been donated by local businesses and individuals. When a woman is done with her wig, she can donate it to someone else, or bring it back for someone else to take home.

If you're a woman affected by hair loss and would like to visit the boutique, call 419.221.6122 to schedule an appointment. There are no age or location restrictions, the boutique is for all women. Volunteers to sew scarves and hats are also needed and can reach the boutique at the same number.
