FORT LORAMIE, Ohio (WLIO) — The 5th annual MLK Classic at Fort Loramie brought a full slate of basketball action to Shelby County, featuring five games and four West Central Ohio teams. The MLK Classic was also one of three Ohio events this season to feature the shot clock.
In one of the featured matchups, the Anna Rockets squared off against Waynesville inside Fort Loramie Gymnasium. Anna entered the contest at 5-7 overall, riding a two-game winning streak, while Waynesville looked to continue its momentum.
Anna faced an early challenge, trailing by 10 points in the opening quarter before junior Carter Wenning sparked the offense. Wenning knocked down back-to-back corner threes to cut the deficit to single digits and help the Rockets trail 19-14 after one.
The Rockets continued to battle in the second quarter behind senior Brady Wenning, who finished with 18 points. A three-pointer from junior Rhylan Platfoot pulled Anna within one at 24-23, but Waynesville responded to take a 33-27 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Platfoot showcased his shooting touch, finishing with a game-high 23 points as Anna tried to keep pace. Despite the Rockets’ effort, Waynesville maintained control down the stretch.
Anna falls 65-58, and the Rockets are now 5-8 on the season.
