ROCKFORD, Ohio (WLIO) — Marion Local moved above the .500 mark on the season with a 59-45 win over Parkway in Midwest Athletic Conference girls basketball action.
The Flyers found their rhythm early despite a close opening quarter. Parkway senior Brittyn Bruns kept the Panthers within striking distance with a corner three-pointer, leading her team with 18 points on the night.
Marion Local answered behind junior Kate Ashman, who showcased her versatility on both ends of the floor. Ashman knocked down a three-pointer before turning a defensive stop into an easy transition basket, finishing with a game-high 24 points.
Parkway looked to close the gap in the second quarter as Megan Hughes worked through traffic for a pair of baskets, but Marion Local continued to apply pressure offensively. Kiley Schoenlein added key points inside to help the Flyers extend their lead heading into the second half.
Marion Local secured 59-45 victory to improve to 6-5 overall.
