St. Marys (WLIO) — Bath kept its strong start rolling Friday night with a high-scoring 56-36 win over St. Marys in Western Buckeye League play.
The Wildcats (2-0) surged ahead behind an offense that clicked from start to finish. After St. Marys opened the second half with a defensive stop, Bath responded quickly. Quarterback Zach Welsch connected with Logan Markley for a big gain, setting up Mikey Hale’s touchdown run to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 35-10.
The Roughriders (0-2) showed fight in the second half, driving the length of the field for a Caleb Schmidt rushing score to cut into the deficit. But Hale proved unstoppable, adding another touchdown on a pitch play as Bath kept pulling away.
Defensively, St. Marys had early highlights from Owen Ott, who recorded a tackle for loss, but the Wildcats’ offensive rhythm proved too much to contain.
Bath’s 56 points marked one of its highest offensive outputs in recent years, with Hale leading the way in the ground game.
The Wildcats will look to stay unbeaten in WBL play next week, while St. Marys searches for its first win of the season.
