CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Celina girls basketball team continued its strong home play Friday night, pulling away early and cruising to a 60-25 win over Bellefontaine.
Celina, entering the game at 4-4, faced a Bellefontaine team still searching for its first win of the season.
Bellefontaine showed some fight in the second quarter when Grace Brown ended a 9-0 Celina run with a banked basket, trimming the deficit to nine. The Bulldogs responded quickly, as Carly Smith drove hard to the basket for an and-one opportunity to push Celina’s lead into double digits.
The Lady Chieftains continued to battle on the glass, with Paxton Stewart grabbing an offensive rebound and converting the putback to keep Bellefontaine within reach.
Celina closed the first half on a strong note. Alaina Vehorn knocked down a pull-up jumper to maintain the Bulldogs’ double-digit advantage heading into halftime.
The Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in the second half. Brinley Korte set up Lilly Shreffler for an easy finish, further extending Celina’s lead.
Celina’s balanced scoring and defensive pressure proved too much for Bellefontaine, as the Bulldogs maintained control throughout the second half and pulled away for the 60-25 victory.
