MARIA STEIN — In a rare clash of unbeaten heavyweights, Delphos St. John’s proved to be the difference Friday night, rolling past Marion Local 66-36 in a matchup featuring the top-ranked teams in Division 7 and Division 6, respectively.

The Blue Jays entered at 12-0 and delivered a statement performance behind a dominant second half from Furman commit Cameron Elwer. Elwer poured in 35 points, repeatedly stretching the floor and breaking open the game with a barrage of 3-pointers as St. John’s pulled away.

Elwer connected from deep multiple times in the second half as the Blue Jays built steady separation. Tyce McClain added to the surge, knocking down key baskets to keep Marion Local at bay.

The Flyers, who came in unbeaten at 10-0, looked to respond behind junior Isaac Moeller, who scored on a floater and later drilled a 3-pointer to briefly cut into the deficit. But Delphos St. John’s continued to answer every run, controlling the tempo on both ends of the floor.

The win also marked a milestone for Blue Jays head coach Aaron Elwer, who recorded his 300th career victory.

The two programs entered the night deadlocked historically at 22 wins apiece in a rivalry defined by razor-thin margins. This one, however, belonged decisively to Delphos St. John’s, as the Blue Jays remained unbeaten with a convincing road win.
