COLUMBUS GROVE, Ohio (WLIO) — Grove continued its dominant run through league play Friday night, rolling to a 44-7 win over Allen East behind a big night from senior quarterback Landon Best.
With the victory, the Bulldogs (3-3, 3-0 NWC) not only remained undefeated in Northwest Conference action but also climbed back to the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Grove struck first when Trevon Baxter took a pitch to the outside, stiff-armed a defender, and sprinted into the end zone to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
Allen East (0-6, 0-3 NWC) responded quickly as quarterback Keagan Jones delivered a deep touchdown pass to Cam Smith while absorbing a hit, tying the game at 7. But from that point on, it was all Grove.
Best answered with a deep strike of his own, finding Gavin Barraza in stride for a touchdown to make it 14-7.
He followed that up with a rushing score of his own, powering into the end zone to extend the lead to 21-7.
The senior wasn’t done yet. Late in the game, Best handled a high snap, then connected with Baxter again on a 74-yard touchdown bomb — a highlight that punctuated the Bulldogs’ explosive night.
Grove controlled all three phases of the game and never looked back after the first quarter. With momentum building, the Bulldogs now look ahead to a key conference matchup next week, while Allen East continues to search for its first win of the season.
