MARYSVILLE, Ohio — (WLIO) Indian Lake is making history. The Lakers powered past North Union 35-21 on Friday night at Impact Stadium, securing the program’s first-ever trip to the OHSAA Division V state semifinals.
The rematch picked up right where the Week 6 thriller left off. North Union struck first, punching in a power run to go up 7-0. But the Lakers quickly answered. Brady Golliday turned on the jets down the left sideline, outrunning the Wildcats’ secondary to tie the game at 7-7.
From there, the momentum shifted. Noah Shirk continued his postseason tear, finding the edge and sprinting 20 yards for a go-ahead score. North Union countered with a 30-yard touchdown strike to even the game at 14-14, but Indian Lake refused to slow down.
Shirk delivered again on a misdirection play, slicing through the defense for his third touchdown of the night. The senior standout finished with 187 rushing yards and four total touchdowns, powering the Lakers to a 21-14 lead they would not surrender.
Indian Lake closed it out with a strong fourth quarter, sealing a 35-21 victory and a place in school history.
Up next: a massive showdown with undefeated Liberty Center in next week’s state semifinal.
