LIMA — Lima Senior opened its season in dominant fashion, pulling away from Start for a 90-51 win in a Toledo City League matchup at Lima Gymnasium.
The Spartans, coming off a 22-3 campaign, set the tone early with back-to-back dunks. Shawn Foster elevated for the first highlight throwdown, and Willie Foster followed with a chase-down block on the defensive end. Newcomer Elynn Stearns, a 6-foot-7 sophomore from Anna, added an inside bucket as Lima Senior built its lead.
Start kept pace early, with Cailin Hornbeak finishing a two-handed dunk, but Lima Senior’s offense took over. Foster knocked down a three to extend the advantage to 41-23 in the second quarter and continued his hot night, eventually finishing with 30 points.
In the third quarter, Willie Foster converted a drive, drew the foul and completed the and-one on his way to 13 points. Noah Simpson added a deep three as the Spartans controlled the second half.
Lima Senior improved to 1-0 with the win. The team’s matchup with Aiken on Saturday has been moved to a 2 p.m. JV start.
