FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Senior Faith Torrez delivered a near-perfect floor routine in the final rotation to help Oklahoma edge LSU and win the NCAA women's gymnastics championship. Torrez, who won the NCAA all-around title earlier in the meet, scored a 9.950. That was enough to boost the Sooners' team total to 198.1625, with the Tigers less than a tenth of a point behind. The win gave Oklahoma is fourth NCAA title in five years and eighth since 2014. Florida, which was expected to challenge the Sooners for the title, was third. Minnesota capped the best season in program history with a fourth-place finish.
UNDATED (AP) — Georgia edge rusher Amaris Williams suffered a non-contact knee injury and will be sidelined for the immediate future. Coach Kirby Smart confirmed the news Saturday after the annual G-Day spring scrimmage. Williams, who moved to Georgia from Auburn in January, did not compete Saturday's scrimmage. Smart did not provide a timetable for his return, citing the unpredictability of ACL injuries. He mentioned George Pickens' similar injury and recovery. The Bulldogs face other injuries, including running back Nate Frazier, who exited the game early as a precaution after an ankle issue.
ATLANTA (AP) — Alberto Mendoza has used spring practice to establish himself as the favorite to start at quarterback for Georgia Tech following his transfer from Indiana. When asked Saturday about the Yellow Jackets' quarterback room, coach Brent Key said, “Alberto is the guy.” Mendoza was named the offensive captain for Georgia Tech’s spring game on Saturday, another indication he is viewed as the leading candidate to start. Mendoza was the backup to his older brother, Fernando Mendoza, on Indiana's national championship team. Fernando Mendoza is expected to be the No. 1 pick in next week's NFL draft.
ATLANTA (AP) — A former defensive tackle at the University of Alabama is accused of wearing makeup and wigs to impersonate NFL players in a fraud scheme that bilked investors of $20 million. Federal prosecutors in Atlanta charged Luther Davis last month with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. An email and call to his attorney, Gabe Banks, on Friday were not immediately returned. According to a court filing, Davis is expected to plead guilty later this month. In a criminal complaint, prosecutors say Davis impersonated three separate NFL players. The complaint only identifies the NFL players by their initials.

The school’s board of trustees granted final approval for a multipurpose facility and a plaza space to be built at the north end of Jordan-Hare Stadium. The additions are expected to cost $323 million. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer. Auburn hopes to have at least a portion of the project completed and available for use by fall 2028, with the remainder to be finished in spring 2029. The multipurpose center will construct a seven-story addition onto Jordan-Hare that will provide 3,000 additional premium seats and expand campus dining options.
