FAIRBORN, Ohio (WLIO) — The Russia Raiders continued their postseason dominance, sweeping New Miami to claim their ninth consecutive district championship on Saturday at Fairborn High School.
It was all Russia from the start. Junior standout Hazel Francis was unstoppable at the net, firing a blistering kill to make it 23–6 late in the opening set. The Raiders went right back to her on set point, closing it out 25–9.
The momentum only grew from there. In the second set, Francis teamed up with Claudia Hoehne for a block as Russia’s defense smothered the Vikings, who struggled to find any rhythm against the Raiders’ front line. Francis stayed hot offensively, adding multiple kills as Russia built a quick lead and never looked back.
Russia sealed the sweep with set scores of 25–9, 25–13 and 25–11, stamping yet another dominant district title run.
The Raiders advance to the Division VII regional semifinals, where they will face Leipsic on Thursday, October 30 at Northmont High School.
