ELIDA, OH (WLIO) — Shawnee continued its strong start to the volleyball season with a straight-set sweep over Elida on Wednesday night, winning 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 in Western Buckeye League action.

The Indians, coming off a Division III regional semifinal appearance last season, improved to 3-0 with the victory. Elida dropped to 2-5 on the year.

Shawnee jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the opening set, with Chelsea Burkholder setting up Addie Kriegel for an early kill. Elida responded with a no-look shot from senior Addy Sneary and a powerful spike from Maddie Kill to narrow the gap to 8-5, but the Bulldogs couldn’t overcome the Indians’ consistency at the net.

Cadence Wilson delivered a key kill late in the first set to halt Elida’s momentum, helping Shawnee secure the opener 25-20.

The following sets were tightly contested, but the Indians maintained control throughout, using strong defense and efficient hitting to hold off late pushes from the Bulldogs.

Shawnee will look to keep its undefeated streak alive as league play continues, while Elida aims to regroup before its next matchup.
