LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The UNOH women’s basketball team opened a doubleheader with a gritty overtime victory against Cornerstone.

The Racers came into the contest with a 12-3 home record and wasted no time protecting their court. UNOH jumped out to a 12-0 run to start the game, capped off by freshman Brooke Asher driving inside for the layup. She finished the night with 11 points.

Fellow freshman Lori Huffman followed with a strong effort on the glass, grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back up for the hoop and the harm. Huffman converted the three-point play to give the Racers a 15-2 lead early.

Cornerstone chipped away, but UNOH continued to get production from its young talent. Freshman Sanaiiya Gray was left open on an inbound play and made the Golden Eagles pay, scoring two of her game-high 24 points in the sequence.

Later, junior Olivia Thompson showed off her range, knocking down a jumper from beyond the arc. Thompson added 16 points as the Racers maintained control for much of regulation.

Still, Cornerstone forced overtime in a back-and-forth battle. In the extra period, UNOH executed down the stretch and sealed a 77-73 win, improving on their strong home mark in front of the home crowd.
