WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) — Wapakoneta overcame a sluggish first half to defeat Toledo Clay 28-7 on Friday night, extending its regular season winning streak to 19 games.

The Redskins, coming off a 12-1 season in 2024, struggled offensively in the opening two quarters. Despite taking an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter, both teams found it difficult to generate momentum on offense.

Clay nearly evened the score late in the second quarter, advancing to the Wapakoneta 2-yard line. But a botched snap led to a fumble recovery by the Redskins, ending the threat and preserving the lead going into halftime.

The second half told a different story.

Wapakoneta found its rhythm after the break, outscoring the Eagles 21-7 over the final two quarters. The Redskins’ defense continued to frustrate Clay’s offense, while the ground game began to take control.

With the win, Wapakoneta improves to 1-0 and maintains one of the longest active regular season win streaks in the state.

The Redskins will look to make it 20 straight next week.
