13-year-old found along S. Scott Street succumbs to injuries, 14-year-old in custody

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A 13-year-old has died after being injured in a large fight in Lima on Friday night.

The Lima Police Department was called to the 200 block of South Scott Street around 8:30 p.m. on Friday for reports of a fight and a person being assaulted on the ground. The teenage boy was found unconscious along the street with a head injury. He was taken to Lima Memorial Health System and then later to Nationwide Children's Hospital because of the extent of his injuries. On Monday morning, the 13-year-old succumbed to his injuries. The Franklin County Coroner's Office will examine his body. A 14-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday and is being held on the charge of delinquency by felonious assault.

April 15, 2024, Press Release from the by the Lima Police Department: On Friday, 4/12/2024, at about 8:30 p.m., patrol officers from the Lima Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of S. Scott Street, in reference to a large fight and an individual being assaulted on the ground. Upon the officers' arrival, they located a 13-year-old juvenile unconscious along the road. That individual was transported to Lima Memorial Health System and determined to be in serious/critical condition from an apparent head injury. Investigators were called as the juvenile male victim was being treated. Ultimately, the juvenile was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for more comprehensive care. Investigators continued the investigation on 4/13/2024, and a 14-year-old juvenile suspect was located and taken into custody for delinquency by felonious assault. On 4/15/2024, at about 9:47 a.m., the juvenile victim at Nationwide Children’s Hospital was pronounced deceased by medical staff. The victim will be transported to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy, and the investigation will continue. Results of the investigation will be forwarded to the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office to determine appropriate charges, if any, against the juvenile in custody.
