LEIPSIC, OH (WLIO) - What started out as an idea for a small celebration last year has turned into a full-blown Christmas festival thanks to the support of the community.

2nd Annual Light Up Leipsic grows bigger and more fun with donations from local businesses

The Leipsic Community Center's 2nd annual Light Up Leipsic had a lot of new holiday activities for families. Last year, the event was just within the community center, but this time neighboring businesses also opened their doors to host their own activities like photo ops, games, and writing letters to Santa. People could also enter raffles to win a Christmas tree, get hot chocolate and cookies, and take horse drawn carriage and train rides.

So many local businesses pitched in with donations that the community center didn't have to pay anything out of pocket, and neither did parents.

"We want to keep it free because we want families to have fun things that they can do with their kids that they don't have to worry about 'I can't afford to go," explained Ada Hilton, the program assistant for the Leipsic Community Center and the organizer of Light up Leipsic. "Yesterday a lady says she feels like it's a Hallmark movie. I said yes, that's my plan! I love Hallmark, I want a Hallmark movie event."

The festival also featured performances from Leipsic High School's band and choir students and their first ever Christmas light themed parade.
