LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Toys for Tots program is doing well as donation boxes are being collected from around the region.
Today(12/12/23) was their annual shopping day at the Lima Meijer store, which helps them fill in the gaps of gifts for the different age groups. They focused on teen items to start with and then hit the aisles of toys for all ages. Gifts were being loaded by the hand full into carts that made their way to the front where several Meijer associates were dedicated to getting those toys checked out. Meijer donated $3,000 to the cause and says giving back is part of the company's mission.
"So Meijer and the Meijer family has always been part since they first opened to be part of the community. And giving back to the community that we serve. Our employees enjoy it, we enjoy it, it's great to see the smiles on the faces for everything that we can do for the community and it's great to help the kids," stated Steve Cope, store director of Lima Meijer.
"This is helping us a lot because we're knowing that we're giving the kids a better Christmas and being able to supply the toys for them," commented Captain Charity Bender, Lima Salvation Army.
Crews have already started to bag toys for the annual Christmas Assistance distribution later this month.
