30th annual Spencerville Summerfest now through Saturday

SPENCERVILLE, OH (WLIO) - The village of Spencerville says hello to summer with three days full of fun for the entire family.

For the 30th year, Summerfest is taking over downtown with carnival games and rides, competitions, and live music. Other highlights of the weekend include a car and a tractor cruise-in, a cornhole tournament, and a parade. The several-block-long festival has something for every age, so plenty of families locally and from out of town make it a tradition to get together and go every year.

"The start was with Ida Kay Keller, who has actually passed away, and we're celebrating her this year to celebrate the 30th anniversary. And she just wanted to bring the town together and have a festival to celebrate our town. It's actually really exciting that a town this size can actually put on something this size. We have fireworks on Saturday night; it's one of the largest fireworks shows in the area, and it's just nice to see everybody from the surrounding areas come and support this small town," said Ashley Wiechart, the vice president of the Summerfest committee.

You can't have Summerfest without the fire department. They open the station to the public to sell food and show residents around, and they also sponsor the rides.

"You know, it's great seeing the community come out and support us. Typically, when we meet people, it's obviously at a time of distress, so we look forward to coming here, having this event, and seeing what's going on in their lives, and while they're smiling, they're supporting us, and we have a fun time doing it," added Cory Counts, the president of the Invincible Fire Company.

You can find the full schedule of events on the Summerfest Facebook page.
