4-H Spotlight: Hard work pays off for the Junior Fair at Allen County Fair auction

The Allen County Fair is almost wrapped up, and that means that the kids in the Junior Fair program will be rewarded at the auction for all their hard work.

ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Allen County Fair is almost wrapped up, and that means that the kids in the Junior Fair program will be rewarded at the auction for all their hard work.

Ryker Winegardner says he is already looking forward to next year's fair.

You look forward to it every year, like the fair. You get to walk the midways; it's fun, and you walk the barns, and that is also fun," says Oksana Gossard, Showed Grand Champion Market Hog.

This year at the Allen County Fair is especially fun for Oksana Gossard, who won Grand Champion Market Hog.

This is Winegardner's 1st year showing hogs, and he ended up with Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog

"It was really cool. My sister has won county before, and I just wanted to do it. I just went in thinking she was going to win it again. Then he won, and I was like, 'Oh, this is cool."

But what was really cool was the money that Gossard won during the auction. 

"Ladies and gentlemen, your grand champion market hog, I sold it to you for $8,500," says the auctioneer.

While their hard work paid off, Gossard recommends that others join 4-H to get other benefits that she gets by going to the fair. 

This is Ryker Winegardner's 1st year showing hogs, and he ended up with Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog and heading into the auction.

"I'm happy and nervous at the same time," says Ryker Winegardner, Showed Reserve Champion Market Hog. 

But after the auction, he was very happy.

"Sold your reserve grand champion for $7,000; congratulations," says the auctioneer. 

Winegardner says he is already looking forward to next year's fair.

"Just getting better, and just working on him and getting better walking pigs, and it's just fun going to shows," adds Winegardner. 

While their hard work paid off, Gossard recommends that others join 4-H to get other benefits that she gets by going to the fair. 

"I like the work ethic that you get out of it. I think that everyone should do it; it's so good for you. It's so fun; you make a ton of friends and a ton of memories," says Gossard.
