It’s a bridge that has been on the list for replacement for many years and now the funding is in place to get it done.

The State Road Bridge was built in 1948 and has become in disrepair in recent years and will be replaced with construction slated for June and completion in October. There are federal and state dollars in place to do the project with a very minimum local match. The engineer’s estimate was 1.4-million dollars, and the project was awarded to R.G. Zachrich Construction Inc. for just under 1.2 million dollars. Commissioners say it’s important to get this project completed.

Allen County Commissioner Brian Winegardner adds, “The importance is safety for obvious reasons. We want to make sure our citizens are safe as they cross those bridges. And this has been a bridge that has needed repairs several times in the past here.”

The bridge will go from 24 feet wide to 32 feet wide and has had a load limit since 2009.
