The Allen County Board of Elections will soon be seeing a change of scenery, but instead of moving away they are moving up.

The Board is renovating space on the first floor of the Court of Appeals building in downtown Lima with plans to move their whole operation there in the coming months. Their current home is in the basement of that same building, but feel that the first floor would be more accessible and more comfortable for voters.

"Currently the Board of Elections is housed in the basement and the concern with that is if the elevator was to go out of service," said Keith Cheney, Chairman for the Board of Elections. "This will be a much more customer friendly, voter-friendly atmosphere being on the first floor and quite frankly that's just great for the voters and encouraging people to participate."

Before they can move into the new space, a sprinkler system needs to be moved and a couple of walls need to be put up, but they are optimistic that it will be ready before the May primary.
