After nearly two years of discussions and planning renovations, the 3rd District Court of Appeals Building is making way for a new space for the Allen County Board of Elections.

Walls are up and doors are in creating new office space. The Board of Elections is currently in the basement and at the beginning of the year, it will move up to the 1st floor. The new space will be more user-friendly for the public. The idea to move the office upstairs came out of the feasibility study done several years ago. The project is just over $200,000 and will come out of the capital budget.

Commissioner Cory Noonan says, “It is something that we had set money aside. Again it was one of the priorities of our overall building feasibility study. So we began putting money aside for this. It’s taken us, you know, a couple of years to get that money put aside to take care of this project but it is a priority.”

Construction should be completed by the end of the year with a move-in date in early 2020. The office will be up and running by the March Presidential Primary.
