The map is complete and ready for review during an upcoming public hearing.
Allen County Commissioners introducing the “Renewable Energy Map”. The map was in response to Ohio Senate Bill 52 giving more authority to local government to decide where large wind and solar farms could build. Commissioners took what the 12 townships submitted and wanted to see happen. Most of the county will be restricted to any new large alternative energy projects. Perry and Shawnee Township trustees did propose parts of their townships would allow such projects. The map was a collaborative effort and will now be viewed by the public.
Allen County Commissioner Beth Seibert explains, “What it does leave open is about what I would say is 2,000 acres in Allen County. Expressly the general industrial areas of Perry and Shawnee Townships.”
That public hearing is scheduled for April 4th at 5:30 pm at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center (7 Town Square, Lima, OH 45801). The proposed “Birch Solar Project” is technically grandfathered in as it was started prior to Senate Bill 52.
