The Allen County Museum brought its 'Traveling Trunk' program to Unity Wednesday morning to educate the students on what life was like for early settlers in Allen County and Ohio. The program showed students what traveling was like, along with daily life such as clothing, cooking meals, life in log cabins, and much more. Programs like the Traveling Trunk can give hands-on learning to the students and make history come to life.

The Traveling Trunk program visits school districts all across the county throughout the school year to educate students on the history of our area.

"Well, you can read about it in a book and see pictures in the book, but I think you really need to see it for real and then actually the hands-on component to get a better feel for what life would have been like and just how different it was, how hard they had to struggle back then for everything. The toys, that's why I save them for last because that's always the biggest hit. Just realizing that you know they didn't have TV or computer games or battery-operated toys, but they still had fun when they weren't working," explained Sarah Rish, curator of education at the Allen County Museum.
