LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The announcement of the Jack Somerville Law Officer of the Year Award was made as part of the fallen officer memorial service at the FOP Lima Lodge.
Presented by the Lima Exchange Club, this year's award was presented to Investigator Aaron Montgomery of the Lima Police Department. Investigator Montgomery has served in law enforcement for 17 years, and this was his 3rd nomination for the award.
Montgomery, a Bluffton High School and Rhodes State College graduate, has worked for the Lima Police Department as well as the Lima SWAT Team and on the West Central Ohio Task Force. While he appreciates the award, he says he couldn't have done it alone.
Investigator Montgomery has served in law enforcement for 17 years, and this was his 3rd nomination for the award.
"A lot of things that are done behind the scenes, and I see it every day by not only the Lima Police Department, but I've had the opportunity to work with other agencies, and it's kind of like a big thank you that you almost don't want, because the limelight is an enjoyable thing, and I appreciate that opportunity, it means a lot to me, but it's almost like one I don't want on me," said Montgomery. "My family, my children, my wife and my mom and dad - we're a family of law enforcement, so they've endured a lot for the last 17 years, including shift and long, long hours of babysitting. It's been a lot."
Investigator Montgomery is the 57th recipient for the Jack Somerville Officer of the Year Award.
