LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Despite rising everyday costs, Americans say they are not giving up their summer vacations.
The new Priceline "State of Summer Travel" report found that 44% of Americans say a vacation feels out of reach this year. Even so, 73% say they will do whatever it takes to travel. The survey also found that 79% of Americans plan to take at least one trip this summer.Â
Travel experts with AAA say major milestones, including America's 250th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of Route 66, are helping drive travel demand by air, rail and road.
"Flights are always going to increase during the summer, but we're also seeing more people travel by train. That's another great way to get across the country or get to a place where you want to go. But people are always going to love that great American road trip," said Cindy Nelson, retail manager at Lima AAA.
Nelson added that travelers looking to save money should consider lower-star hotels, book properties that include breakfast, use credit card rewards and plan their trips well in advance.
