Here are some of the programs and events being offered by the Johnny Appleseed Park District for the month of August!
KAYAKING 101
THE JOHNNY APPLESEED PARK DISTRICT is offering KAYAKING 101 at OTTAWA METRO PARK – LIMA LAKE (2632 Ada Rd., Lima, OH) for ages 18 and older. Program dates and times are Wed., Aug. 12 at 9am OR 10:30am.
Join us on the water at Lima Lake and learn the basics of kayaking! In our program, participants will learn from certified instructors how to safely and effectively launch and paddle a kayak. Instruction will be provided on parts of boat, proper safety gear and how to get out on the water. No prior experience is required. Reminder to wear sunscreen, sun-protective clothing including a hat and sunglasses. Also closed-toe shoes are required and wear items the you don’t mind getting wet.
Limited space is provided. Pre-registration is required and will close 2 days prior to the program. Register by online at www.jampd.com or contacting the Park office at 419-221-1232.
WEEKLY WALKS
THE JOHNNY APPLESEED PARK DISTRICT will offer a WEEKLY WALKS on Thurs., Aug. 13 at 9:00 a.m., OTTAWA METRO PARK (2632 Ada Rd., OH).
Enjoy the quiet winter mornings while we get in our steps! Join a Naturalist as we walk the trails of Ottawa Metro Park. Together we can achieve our fitness goals while also enjoying nature. All ages welcome, and we can set our own pace. Dress for the weather – rain or shine!

AMPHITHEATER PROGRAM
On Sat., Aug. 15, at 7:00 p.m., THE JOHNNY APPLESEED PARK DISTRICT offers its next AMPHITHEATER PROGRAM SERIES - ANTIQUE MAYHAM to be held at OTTAWA METRO PARK (2632 Ada Rd., Lima, OH).
There is no better way to wind down at the end of a Summer day than with some classic soft rock music covering hits from the 70’s through the 90’s. For information on this and other programs, contact the Park office at 419-221-1232.

JOHNNY APPLESEED PARK DISTRICT AT THE ALLEN CO. FAIR
THE JOHNNY APPLESEED PARK DISTRICT will be at the Allen Co. Fairgrounds (2750 Harding Hwy., Lima, OH), during the Fair that runs Fri., Aug. 21 - Sat. Aug. 29.
Stop by the conservation tent (near the SW corner of the fairgrounds) to appreciate what the JAMPD Naturalists and other local partners have put on display! The engaging and informative displays will be open to view while the fair is open. There will be specific programming as well, with the Conservation Club’s Youth Fishing Derby on Monday morning and JAMPD programs (often featuring live animals) throughout the rest of the week.

IMAGINATURE PLAYGROUP
On Tues., Aug. 25 at 10:00 a.m. OR 1:00 p.m., THE JOHNNY APPLESEED METROPOLITAN PARK DISTRICT will offer IMAGINATURE PLAYGROUP at HERMON WOODLANDS METRO PARK (485 N. Wapak Rd., Elida, OH).
Come play with us at the Hermon Woodlands Imaginature Playscape! Join a Naturalist at the West Shelter for a mini program, then spend the rest of the time playing and exploring in the playscape and creek. Feel free to pack a picnic lunch and extra shoes and/or clothes for the ride home!
