LIMA, Ohio - The Lima City Schools will hold its annual Back to School Celebration and School Supply Giveaway from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Martin Luther King Park, 400 E. Eighth Street.
Families are invited to the park for a free picnic dinner and students will be able to select a book bag and the school supplies they need for the new school year. Students must be present to get school supplies.
There will be face painting, games and activities, including Westgate Entertainment bringing activities for students. Families can visit the Spartan Ride and booths set up by the Salvation, Army, Lima Public Library and others.
Spartan Cheerleaders will hold a mini cheer clinic and basketball and kickball will be ongoing throughout the event.
The Lima Police Department will be at the park grilling hotdogs and the Lima Fire Department will bring its mascot, Patches.
The event is made possible thanks to these generous partners in the community: Aktion Club, Altrusa International, Bob Evans Farms, Cenovus Lima Refinery, Citizens National Bank, Cotterman & Company, Culligan Water, Gordon Food Service, Lima Congress of School Administrative Personnel, Lima Education Association, Lima Kiwanis Club, Lima Memorial Health System, Nickles Bakery, Peacock Water, Procter & Gamble, Reiter Dairy, RightWay Food Service, Salvation Army, Sisters in Service Community Foundation of the Sigma Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and Trinity United Methodist Church.
Thanks also to the City of Lima for the use of MLK Park.
We will continue to accept donations until next Monday (Aug. 4) at Central Services/Bus Garage, 600 E. Wayne St. It is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. the rest of this week.
