LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — If you're looking to improve your financial health and don’t know where to begin, Club 129’s new public workshop series might be the perfect place to start.
According to Saint Rita’s representatives, Club 129 is focused on improving the whole health of Lima residents — and that includes financial well-being.
Mercy Health – Saint Rita’s has partnered with State Bank to present a three-part series aimed at helping individuals better understand and manage their money. The free workshops, open to the public, will cover topics such as budgeting, savings, and credit repair. According to Saint Rita’s representatives, Club 129 is focused on improving the whole health of Lima residents — and that includes financial well-being.
“Just to let folks know that they're not alone,” said Tami Trenkamp, Community Development Officer at State Bank & Trust. “A lot of times they don't know where to start. So all this is doing is helping them restart here and get to the end.”
Carla Thompson, Community Resource Navigator for Club 129, emphasized the importance of financial stability as part of overall health.
“We call it the social determinants of health,” Thompson said. “The thing is, if you are hungry, if you are broke, if you don't have a home to stay in, you're not really worried about these other things — like making it to your primary care physician. So we want to make sure that people have those foundational things, or at least have access to get them or learn about them.”
The first workshop will be held Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lima Public Library. The topic will be "Budgeting and Savings Basics." Two additional workshops are scheduled for May 31 and June 28.
Workshops are free and open to anyone looking to get their finances in order. Organizers ask participants to register in advance by calling 419-516-1273 to ensure there are enough materials for everyone.
