LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima city councilman says he witnessed an outpouring of hometown pride as community donations helped provide more than 450 turkeys to local families for Thanksgiving.
For the past several days, Lima’s 6th Ward Councilman Derry Glenn has been distributing turkeys to families who signed up for his annual holiday giveaway. Glenn began the program to ensure families have the opportunity to gather at home and share a holiday meal. He said he is encouraged to see residents supporting one another, especially during a time when funding for supplemental food programs remains uncertain.
“They showed their hometown pride. Did they care about the people here in Lima we have people for others. Ohio City to come pick up turkeys. Wapakoneta, Van Wert and Cridersville, they came to pick up turkey. So, we were open for everyone. We are excited about this every year that we show our hometown pride that we're gonna continue working hard. We just can't stop for this holiday and Christmas, people gonna need help all year round,” said Derry Glenn, Lima’s 6th Ward councilman.
This year marks the 16th annual turkey giveaway organized by Glenn.
