DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) - The City of Delphos is taking a closer look at its 2026 budget appropriations during city council.

At Monday night’s meeting, budget discussions centered on the Parks Department. Delphos Mayor Andre McConnahea said significant work is needed throughout the city’s parks, with Stadium Park being the primary focus. Because of those needs, the Parks Department submitted a substantial request for additional funding. After several hours of discussion, Delphos City Council reached a decision on the request.

"From our Parks Superintendent, it's a pretty significant increase above his normal budget. For tonight, the council approved about $140,000 above what his standard budget would be to start working on the parking lot, some other issues around the park that have just been in need for years, for decades... so, we're looking forward to that. Obviously, it didn't quite hit the number that we needed it or wanted to be, but it will be enough to get us started in a positive direction for the Stadium Park," says Mayor Andre McConnahea, City of Delphos.

City officials noted that additional areas of Stadium Park will also require attention in the future.

"Pickleball courts, tennis courts- tennis courts are in very poor condition. We don't have pickleball in this community. It's the fastest growing sport in the country. As far as the other items, the sand filter for the pool is a big expense, and on top of that, the really big ticket item is that slide is nearing the end of its life and is going to need replaced," adds Mayor McConnahea.

In other business, the city of Delphos approved a partnership with the WDC Group to begin the planning stages for a new safety services building. Mayor McConnahea said the project is a critical need for the city, noting that the current police, fire and municipal buildings are in poor condition. He added that discussions regarding funding for the project will be necessary moving forward.
