A church with a long-standing presence in Lima introduced their new leader to the community today.
First Baptist Church held an installation service to welcome their new pastor, Rev. Andrew Shields. Shields comes to the church after spending the past 13 years at West Springfield Baptist Church in Pennsylvania. He says one thing about Lima that appealed to him was how much it felt like his own hometown, and he's looking forward to helping the church keep a positive presence in the community.
"I'm hoping for our church to be visible so that we can be the love of Jesus Christ to this town and so that our church isn't known for what we do inside the building but other places as well and to contribute to the teaching of the people here so that they're comfortable in sharing Jesus Christ with other people," said Shields.
Shields started at the church this past November, but the busy holiday season schedule prevented them from officially welcoming him to the community any sooner.
