LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Lima residents enrolled in the city's electric aggregation program have been receiving letters about changes to their electricity provider. The negotiated rates under the current aggregation agreement are set to expire in May.

Trebel, the city’s energy consultant, spoke with Lima City Council about external factors expected to increase the cost of electricity. In response, the city is working to support the nearly 5,000 residents in the program as they prepare for potential rate hikes.

“We have communication on the city council docket, basically allowing Trebel to enter into a new contract agreement for our electrical aggregation program. Through this program, we've been able to assist 4,882 participants save over $2.4 million in total. That equates to about $500 per participant. So, it has been a huge savings program for everyone involved,” said Meri Foster, Lima’s director of finance.

City Council is scheduled to meet on Monday. Residents enrolled in the electric aggregation program are advised to wait until a new rate is established before deciding whether to remain in the program or opt out.
