LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Emerging leaders from across Lima and Allen County are gaining firsthand insight into the organizations that help strengthen the community.

Participants in the Lima Allen Leadership program, commonly known as ALL, met at the Bradfield Community Center to learn about agencies that receive funding through the United Way of Greater Lima. During the session, class members engaged directly with the Soldiers of Honor program, an initiative that empowers youth through boxing, discipline and mentorship.

The ALL program is designed to help participants better understand the region they live and work in. The class meets once a month for 10 months, with each session focused on a different topic. Participants visit a variety of businesses, industries and educational institutions to see how each plays a vital role in the overall success of the region.

Matt Childers, executive director of Lima Allen Leadership, said the program focuses on four main pillars of leadership. “The four main pillars of leadership are lead, connect, grow and serve,” Childers said. “This is a great opportunity for these young, emerging leaders to gain knowledge of what’s happening in our community and within our agencies.”

Since its inception in 1989, more than 700 individuals have completed the Lima Allen Leadership program. Many graduates go on to take on greater civic responsibility by serving on boards, becoming trustees and stepping into leadership roles throughout the region.
