LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima City Schools take time to honor families that go above and beyond for their students and others in the school district. This is the second year that the school has presented its Family of the Year awards. Each of the school buildings selects one family that is deeply involved in their child’s education and works closely with their student’s school building to help make sure that all students and the staff are successful.
“We need family involvement. We cannot do all of this ourselves. You know there are constantly added pieces being put on to teachers. To teach different curriculums, teach different awarenesses within the classrooms. We need that support at home to really get our kids where they need to be academically,” says Jill Ackerman, Superintendent, Lima City Schools.
The 2024 Family of the Year award goes to:
Lima Senior High School: Deidra Lambert
Lima Senior Alternative School: Sharonica Horrison
West Middle School: Edward Williams
North Middle School: Tiffiney Elguera
Liberty Arts Magnet School: Lizbeth Hernandez and Kyle Anderson
South Science and Technology Magnet School: Jessica Honigford
Freedom Elementary School: Jamekia Sorre
Heritage Elementary School: Meredith Reeder
Independence Elementary School: Kyle and Devon Tucker
Unity Elementary School: Heather Young
Lima City Schools also presented the Ohio School Board Associations Business Honor Roll awards to Airgas for their donations to the school’s welding program and its students, and Elite Builders for providing the resources to construct the foundation for the school’s veterans memorial wall, sharing their expertise, and making donations to the school district.
