LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The Lima Fire Department has announced another round of promotions as retirements continue to shift department ranks.
Firefighter Scott Jacobs, a nine-year veteran of the department, has been promoted to lieutenant. In addition, Lt. Matt Parker, who has served the Lima Fire Department for 21 years, has been promoted to captain.
Captain Parker has played a key role in developing the department’s confined space and trench rescue team.

The Lima Fire Department has announced another round of promotions as retirements continue to shift department ranks.
“We have a lot of people that are highly trained in it, going to different classes and things like that,” Parker said. “But we've been lacking the equipment capable to properly take care of it if an issue would arise. Fortunately, in this area, it's low frequency — but with low frequency comes high risk, which creates issues for us, especially when we're putting guys in harm’s way and making sure we have the right equipment for it.”
Parker has worked closely with the City Utilities Department to obtain the necessary equipment for potential confined space rescues, helping to ensure the department is prepared should the need arise.
