Lima Kiwanis learn about alternative path to graduation

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — For more than 20 years, the West Central Learning Academy has helped students who are struggling to earn a high school diploma reach their educational goals.

Members of the Lima Kiwanis Club recently heard about the academy and the progress it has made with local students.

The academy enrolls individuals ages 14 to 22, particularly those who have dropped out of traditional schooling or are struggling to meet graduation requirements. West Central Learning Academy is a free, local public charter school accredited by the state of Ohio that works to meet students’ individual needs and help them succeed.

Superintendent Mindy Schulz said the school continues to see strong outcomes.

“Last year, we had 44 students graduate. Ever since the year, 2019 we have earned the highest rating on our local report card that is issued by the Ohio Department of Education. We have earned and exceeds the standards report card, which indicates that our students and our staff are being successful.”

The school offers a blended learning environment that combines in-house instruction with online education, allowing students to learn at their own pace.

Schulz said West Central Learning Academy is an ideal option for students who need another chance to complete their education.

The academy is located in downtown Lima in the Octagon Building on West North Street. Call 419-227-9252 for more information.
