LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – It was a day of discovery and excitement at the Lima Summer Parks Program as Allen County 4-H representatives led local kids on a lively scavenger hunt.

Armed with a list of more than 50 items, participants searched Faurot Park for everything from a three-pointed leaf to objects shaped like a square, snapping pictures of each find along the way. The hunt had kids running across the park, laughing and learning as they explored.

For many, it was also an introduction to 4-H — a youth development program that focuses on building life skills through hands-on experiences. The name 4-H stands for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health.

“We like coming into either the Lima city area or even Lima City Schools and doing some of our Quest programs and some of our STEM programs,” said Kelly Coble, Allen County 4-H Educator. “We enjoy coming out here and introducing them to all of the elements that we have in 4-H.”

The fun isn’t over yet. The kids will enjoy two more visits from 4-H in the coming weeks, making ice cream next week and launching rockets the following week. The Lima Summer Parks Program continues through August 1.
