LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) -Â Nearly one in five adults lives with a mental illness in the U.S., and the United Way of Greater Lima, in partnership with PASS, is working to provide resources and support in response.
They sponsored a Mental Health First Aid training for individuals who live or work in Allen County.
Organizers say the free program is designed to build awareness, reduce the stigma around mental health disorders, and equip participants with valuable tools and knowledge to support those facing mental health challenges.
"The CDC is saying 47% of Americans are struggling either with anxiety and depression or another disability. So if it's not me, it's going to be somebody close to me that may be struggling, and I can be helpful for them," said Donna Dickman, director of development with PASS.
The United Way of Greater Lima, in partnership with PASS, is working to provide resources and support in response to the prevalence of mental illness.
"For us to just give them hope and to help change the way they think is amazing, and to get that feeling back means so much to me. You know, put a smile on somebody's face for the day. It means a lot to me, and I think that a lot of people should join this field just for that," said Mike Mabry, a participant in the training.
For anyone struggling with their mental health, officials encourage calling the local Hope Line at 1-800-567-4673 or calling or texting 988Â for immediate assistance.
