LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Members of the Lima Exchange Club heard an update on Ohio’s transportation system and future road projects from Ohio Department of Transportation District One Director Chris Hughes.
Hughes shared several notable facts about ODOT, including that Ohio has the fourth-largest interstate system in the United States. He also noted the state has the second-largest inventory of bridges and the sixth-highest number of vehicle miles traveled nationwide.
During his presentation, Hughes outlined upcoming projects planned for 2026, including a new roundabout at the intersection of State Route 117 and State Route 501 in Allen County.
“We did some work on that about 10 years ago, but we just haven't seen the safety improvement out of that that we had hoped for. And so kind of taking the next step out there, we're going to be building a roundabout at that intersection. And so that's going to be the the headlining project for Allen County for 2026,” Hughes said.
The project is expected to go out for bid soon, with construction anticipated to begin in late summer of this year.
