Media Release from ODOT District 1 on Winter Storm cleanup
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - This is a full-crew event. Drivers are working 12-hour shifts around the clock to keep roads clear.
With this storm there have been a handful of incidences where motorists have struck an ODOT plow, though none in ODOT District 1 which covers eight area counties including Allen County. ODOT District 1 has 96 crews on today, while across the state more than 1200 crews are working.
We encourage people to remain at home. Routes are snow-covered and drifting. We expect the wind will persist overnight and for the next few days, causing roads to drift back in.
Avoid passing plows - the road behind them is clearer than ahead.
Maintain a safe following distance, so drivers can see you and you have time to stop.
Use extra care at intersections where plows may need to turn around or push back the snow in gore areas.
Give us plenty of room to work.
ODOT trucks now appear on the Waze mobile app. A plow truck icon will appear on your mapped route when any ODOT truck with operating strobe lights, indicating it’s actively engaged in snow and ice control, is on your route.
